Water Problem in Mluru

Mangaluru: Water scarcity in Mangaluru City has reached to a level where departments like Police which are considered as strict and who have to wear clean and neat uniform everyday, have now been affected. A traffic PSI who was manning traffic at Ambedkar Circle says he has not washed clothes for a few days and wearing the uniform for the fifth day. With white shirts turning brown and no signs of rain the coming days will be too difficult to manage.
Mangaluru is reeling under severe scarcity of water. The water level at Thumbe vented dam which is the source of water to the city reached 4 ft 6 inches as on Monday. According to officials water will last for only one day. The coastal city is also well known as hot and humid city. Traffic cops in city are the worst affected by vehicular pollution. A recent study conducted by Anti-Pollution Drive Foundation shows that Mangaluru City Traffic Police has been most vulnerable to pollution.
Traffic policemen are the one who bare the heat and dust most during summer. With getting water twice in a week they are feeling heat of managing duty and also home.
A traffic policeman controlling traffic at GHS cross road who used to bring drinking water from home now shells out money for packaged drinking water bottles. At least four litres of water per day is needed in this hot weather.
Since our department works on discipline and uniform is an integral part, traffic personnel have no excuse for turning out in an untidy manner.  Arrangements have been made to supply water to residence of Policemen in their colonies. M Udaya Nayak, ACP (Traffic).
