Lifeboat

SAVED 13 LIVES SIX YEARS AGO, NOW DISCARDED: The inflatable life boat which saved lives of 13 crew members of M V Asian Forest now discarded at Kotepura in Ullal near Mangaluru. This life boat was used by crew members of M V Asian Forest, the iron ore-laden ship on its way to China which sank off Arabian Sea, some six nautical miles off Panambur Coast on July 18 in 2009. Captain Yin Sheng Yan and Chief Officer Yang Gao Peng used this life boat for rescue purpose and reached Kotepura on that day. They were taken to KS Hegde Medical Academy Hospital at Deralakatte for treatment.

DEPICTING CULTURE ON THE GO


This scooter has become the brand ambassador for the culture of Dakshina Kannada.  A 1995 model Bajaj Chetak of Vikram Nayak of Kodikal which has been painted with arts depicting culture of Dakshina Kannada is cynosure of Mangalureans. His artist friends Pranesh Kudroli  and Jeevan Salian took 20 days to paint the scooter in Madhubani Folk Art style. On front its painted with Badagu and Thenku thittu yakshagana pictures. Kambala, Tiger dance, Cock fight, Car Festival and Bhutha Kola are the other arts painted. Vikram has spent nearly Rs. 40K for this.
